Room 104 Week 37

Hi parents!

Here are a few of the highlights from our last week together for the 2020-2021 school year!

  • This week we put together our Lucy Wu summary books. Make sure to read what your kids wrote! Students chose how they wanted to summarize each chapter (pictures, writing, comic book, etc.) so their book has an extra personal touch in that way 🙂 In addition to their books, each student brought home a folder filled with their projects that were hung around our classroom and their writing and math journals. I hope you enjoy seeing all of the amazing work they have done throughout the year!
  • Throughout the week we worked on a building challenge. Partners tried to build a structure that stood at least 4 inches tall and held as many books as possible using only one deck of cards and a roll of tape. The communication I heard throughout this challenge was my favorite part! I heard students suggesting triangles because they knew that was the strongest tape. I heard students tell other groups that they saw how good their structure was so they planned to use their idea to get started. I heard students cheering each other on as they stacked their books. I was truly impressed with the teamwork throughout this challenge!

  • Field day on Thursday had our class dribbling through an obstacle course, playing bags (or do you call it corn hole?), playing tug-of-war, and racing with beach balls. We had a blast!

  • Luau Day!

  • Taking down the last link in our countdown chain!

I hope you have a wonderful summer! See you in the fall 🙂

Room 104 Week 36

Hi parents!

Although the school year is wrapping up, we are definitely not winding down! Take a look at what we’ve been up to this week 🙂

  • On Tuesday we planted flowers in front of Plato. It was great to get outside and get our hands dirty! Plus we get to see the beautiful flowers each day on our way to recess.

  • Throughout the week we have been working on our retelling of Pinocchio. We made backgrounds for each part of the story, practiced our lines, and made costumes! I’m sure your kids have been talking about it at home and I hope they are proud of all of their hard work! Stay tuned for our final video.

  • Although we finished reading The Great Wall of Lucy Wu last week, we wanted to continue our study of Chinese culture this week. On Thursday we prepared dumplings just like Lucy did at her birthday party with Yipo. We also made mooncake dough. Today we enjoyed eating our treats! Cooking and eating together are excellent community-building experiences. We also practice fine motor skills, try new foods, practice literacy while reading recipes, and work with measurement/fractions. Most of the class enjoyed the mooncakes and we had mixed reviews about the dumplings 🙂 Here are the recipes if you want to try making them at home!
